The X.400 P7 MAPI Transport Service Provider is a MAPI transport service. It supplies an X.400 Transport Service to MAPI compliant applications allowing them to exploit the full facilities of the X.400 standard. The Service Provider will take a MAPI message from the compliant application and convert it to an X.400 Message store/MTA. Messages delivered to the MTA, addressed to the MAPI compliant application, will be converted from the X.400 format into a MAPI message and then passed to MAPI to be placed in one of the MAPI message store folders where the application will access it.

This MAPI Address Book Service Provider mimics the functionality provided by the standard Exchange GAL (Global Address List) but accesses Internet Directories using LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). It supports searching of Internet Directories including X.500 during a MAPI session and also allows population of a local database with entries and associated attributes using pre-defined searches. The attributes to be retrieved for identified entries can be configured and may include X.509 Certificates.
