The AE Filter Web Part allows to interactively select a specific value from a text field, a dropdown box or a date picker and then will make the selected value available to other Web Parts via a Web Part connection. The AE Filter Web Part can be used with Windows Sharepoint Services V3, MOSS 2007, Sharepoint 2010, Sharepoint 2013 and Sharepoint 2016.

The Filter Web Part lets you:
  • choose the filter type (Text, Dropdown, Date, Radiobuttons, Checkboxes or Tabs)
  • use a Sharepoint List to define the filter items
  • CSS styles to customize the look and feel

Installation Instructions:
  1. download the Filter Web Part Installation Instructions (PDF file, see above) 
  2. either install the web part manually or deploy the feature to your server/farm as described in the instructions.
  3. configure the following Web Part properties in the Web Part Editor "Miscellaneous" pane section as needed:

    • Filter Label:  enter the desired label for the filter
    • Filter Type:  select one of the available Filter types
      - Text Filter
      - Dropdown Filter
      - Radio Buttons
      - Date Filter
      - Checkboxes (multiple values)
      - Tabs
      - List

      Example 1: Filter formatted as a radio button list

      Example 4: Filter formatted as a vertical "List"

    • Default Value: optionally enter a filter default value

      Date or Text Filter:
      - enter {today} to set it to the current date
      - enter {today+dd} to set it to the current date + dd days
      - enter {today-dd} to set it to the current date - dd days
      - enter {year} to set the current year (as eg. 2013)
      - enter {year+yy} to set the current year + yy years
      - enter {year-yy} to set the current year - yy years
      - enter {month} to set the current month as a number between 1 and 12)
      - enter {week} to set the current week number
      - enter {day} to set the current day
      - enter {uid} to set the current logged in user account  (as eg. "contoso\fred")
      - enter {user} to set the current logged in user account without the domain prefix (as eg. "fred")
      - enter {username} to set the current logged in user name (as eg. "Fred Miller")

      You also can set the default value to an URL parameter.
      Example
      {Project} sets it to the "Project" URL parameter value

      Dropdown Filter, Radio Buttons and Checkboxes Filter:
      you can either directly enter the dropdown values (separate each value by a semicolon).

      Example:
      ;Completed;Not Started;In Progress;Deferred

      You can preset the dropdown box by prefixing the preset value with an exclamation mark.
      Example:
      ;Completed;Not Started;!In Progress;Deferred

      You can specify optional "display" values as follows by adding the display value, prefixed by a pipe character:
      Example:
      |select a quote..;MSFT|Microsoft;DJI|Dow Jones;AAPL|Apple

      You also can dynamically get the values from a Sharepoint List. In this case please enter the List URL, optional List View, List Column name (filter value) and optional List Column name (displayed value) as follows:
      http://domain/site/Lists/Listname:ViewName|FilterColumn|DisplayColumn

      Example:
      http://spdomain.com/sites/Projects/Lists/Tasks|Assigned To

      Specify a default value for the List based dropdown filter as follows:
      http://domain/site/Lists/Listname:ViewName|FilterColumn|DisplayColumn=SelectedValue

      Example:
      http://spdomain.com/sites/Projects/Lists/Tasks|Assigned To=Alex Miller

      Specify the display name of the first empty selection by appending "/empty=", followed by the string to be displayed:
      http://domain/site/Lists/Listname|FilterColumn|DisplayColumn/empty=all Tasks..

    • Persist last value:
      remembers the user's last selected value accross page visits.
    • Filter CSS Style:
      optionally enter the CSS style for the filter box
    • Label CSS Style: optionally enter the CSS style for the filter label
    • Form Label Layout:
      choose on of the following 3 Form Label placements:
      - Vertical: above the form controls
      - Left adjust: Left to the form controls (left-adjusted)
      - Right adjust: Left to the form controls (right-adjusted)

  4. After having configured the Filter Web Part, connect it to another web part placed on the same page by selecting *Edit Web Part” and then “Connections”:



    Select the web part to be connected to the filter and then select the List column to be filtered:



    The web part is now ready to be used as a filter.
