Microsoft Internet Information Server allows to publish dynamic data using Microsoft "Active Server Pages" technology.
Typically the information requested by the user is dynamically created by the web server by

  • querying SQL databases or other ODBC compliant data sources,
  • merging the query results with a page template
  • and delivering the result as a HTML page back to the user
