Microsoft Sharepoint Web Parts
Weather Forecast Sharepoint Web Part
The Weather Web Part displays the current weather plus a forecast for the next two days as provided by the MSN Weather RSS feed. The Web Part can be used with Windows Sharepoint Services V3, MOSS 2007, Sharepoint 2010, Sharepoint 2013 and Sharepoint 2016. The RSS feed is automatically cached by Sharepoint for 1 hour to avoid unnecessary network traffic. Since the web part connects to an external RSS feed, it needs to be deployed to the Global Assemby Cache (GAC) for security reasons. The following parameters can be configured:
- Locations: Multiple location can be specified (including international locations)
- Temperature Units (Fahrenheit or Celsius)
- Display of Humidity and Wind Speed
- Custom CSS styles

Installation Instructions:
- download the Weather Web Part Installation Instructions (PDF file, see above)
- either install the web part manually or deploy the feature to your server/farm as described in the instructions.
- Configure the following Web Part properties in the Web Part Editor "Miscellaneous" pane section as needed:
- Location: define the location(s) for which weather informations should be displayed.
You can specify multiple locations (separated by a semicolon).
US locations: just enter the 5 digit US zip code. Example: 94089 (Sunnyvale CA)
Non-US locations: The location parameter has to be entered as a location ID. To find your location ID, browse or search for your city using the Location ID Lookup tool. For example, if you search for Paris France, the location ID is FRXX0076.
Friendly Location Names: If you would like to display a friendly header name instead of the City please append it to the location, separated by the | pipe symbol.
Example: 94089|Head Office;90001|Branch Office
Web Part Connections: The Weather Web Part supports web part connections thus you can optionally pass the location via a web part connection. You need a "provider" web part (as for example the Sharepoint List web part or the AE Filter web part) which defines the "location" information and sends it via the web part connection to the Weather Web Part. You can for example use a Sharepoint List to enter the location code (either US Zip codes or Location ID's). You then would place the Sharepoint List web part onto the same page as the Weather Web Part, switch the Weather Web Part into "Edit" mode and then click again on the small arrow in the web parts upper right corner, select "Connections/Get Field From/Your Provider Web Part". The Weather Web Part will now use the value transmitted by your List Web Part:
- Use Celsius: Check this box if you want Celsius temperature units instead of Fahrenheit
- Show Humidity/Wind: Check this box if you want to display the current humidity and wind information
- Wind speed: Use km/h: Check this box if you want to display the current wind speed in km/h as opposed to mph
- Show Header: display the weather location and the time when the data measurement was taken
- Show Observation Time: display the time and date when the data measurement was taken
- Center Web Part: horizontally centers the Web Part within the available space.
- Nbr. of Days forecast: choose the number of days (1,2 or 3) to be displayed
- Skip Today's Forecast: either display or suppress the display of today's forecast (the weather forecast for the current day somewhat competes with the display of the current conditions and thus can be suppressed).
- Layout: display the forecast aligned either vertically or horizontally in one of 5 layout options including the new "Metro" layout
- Header CSS Style: enter the optional CSS style for the header area
- Current Conditions CSS Style: enter the optional CSS style for the "Current Conditions" box
- Forecast CSS Style: enter the optional CSS style for the "Forecast" boxes
- Culture: optionally enter your Language Code to display the information in your language. You can look up the available language codes here: Microsoft Language Codes pdf document (go to page 29, second table, column "Name" where column "Supported version" = "Release A" or "Release B").
Example: es-AR;Viento;Humedad
- Web Service Timeout: enter the desired maximum timeout (in seconds) to reach the Yahoo Weather web service (Default: 30 seconds).
- Cache Retention Time: enter the Weather Information cache retention time in minutes to minimize an excessive number of calls to the web service.
(0= no chaching of data)
- Page Refresh Interval: enter the page refresh interval in minutes (0 = no page refresh)
- License Key: enter your Product License Key (as supplied after purchase of the "Weather Web Part" license key).
Leave this field empty if you are using the free 30 day evaluation version.
- CSS Styles:
You can apply additional custom CSS styles to format the day names, weather conditions, today's temperature and temperature forecast by adding the following 4 appSettings variables to the web.config "appSettings" section:
<appSettings> <add key="AEWW_DayStyle" value="color:brown;font:12pt calibri" /> <add key="AEWW_ConditionStyle" value="color:green;font:8pt arial" /> <add key="AEWW_CurrentTemperatureStyle" value="color:orange;font:18pt Broadway" /> <add key="AEWW_TemperatureStyle" value="color:orange;font:12pt Broadway" /> <appSettings>
